Dong Da festival is held annually on the 5th lunar day of the Tet Holiday and it became the spirit of Hanoi people because this festival celebrates the Vietnamese nation’s triumphant victory against the Qing invaders. This year it was held at Dong Da cultural park, in Hanoi on February 7, the fifth day of the lunar New Year and it was more special because it marked the 222nd anniversary of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory over Chinese Qing invaders.

This festival is a major event so some leaders of government were given to be as delegates. Deputy Defence Minister Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Huy Hieu and Deputy Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, offered incense in commemoration of the national hero, Emperor Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue.

In his speech, Chairman of the Dong Da district People’s Committee Tran Duc Hoc highlighted the historical significance of the victory in the spring of 1789 This festival celebrates the Vietnamese nation’s triumphant victory against the Qing invaders. Two centuries ago, Dong Da was a battlefield where Quang Trung (Nguyen Hue), a Tay Son farmer who later became a National Hero defeated more than 200,000 soldiers of the Qing invading army. Dong Da Hill became a glorious historical site of the Vietnamese nation. It took back freedom and independence for the nation.

The festival was filled with a unique traditional art performance and other cultural activities, including a dragon dance and martial art performances. On the same day, a number of people also visit the Boc Pagoda, and present their respects and offerings before the Duc Ong Statue, a stature which, in the view of many, is actually dedicated to Emperor Quang Trung.

While, at Ban mountain, Hue city where Nguyen Hue was crowned as Emperor Quang Trung and brought the army to the north to defeat the Qing invaders and free Thang Long citadel, leaders of Thua Thien-Hue provincial People’s Committee, People’s Council and the Fatherland Front offered incense and laid wreaths at the monument of Emperor Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue.
